The Simple 3-Step Periodic Maintenance Process
To Recapture the Luster of Your American Durabilt® Solid Stainless Steel Bumper
By periodically buffing out some of the pits and scratches from the ordinary wear and tear of the road, you can prolong the life and beauty of your stainless steel bumper or other products. Other wise, the same cleanser you use to wash your truck will keep your bumper clean.
After you remove the bumper from the truck (It’s easier to work on a horizontal surface.), we recommend the following easy, 3-step method to recapture the luster :- Sand: You’ll need a dual action sander, polishing oil and progressively finer grit sand paper.
- Start with 80 grit and then move to 100, 120, 180, and 240
- Conclude with a final sanding using 320-grip paper and a polishing oil.
- Buff 1: Switch to a lambs wool bonnet on your buffer. Use cutting compound to remove the grains left from the sanding.
- Buff 2: With a clean lambs wool bonnet on, give the surface a final buff with a coloring compound. Polish the entire surface until you’re satisfied.
You may be tempted to again use the surface as a shaving mirror!
